Titles, Canonicals & Robots

What Vibe sets on the front end and how to control it.

What this is and why it matters

Every page on your site sends a few quiet signals to Google and to social networks. The title tag is the clickable blue headline in search results. The meta description is the gray summary line under it. The canonical tag tells Google which URL is the "real" one when similar pages exist. The robots tag tells search engines whether to list a page at all and whether to follow its links. Open Graph and Twitter tags control how a link looks when someone shares it on Facebook, LinkedIn, or X.

Vibe writes all of these for you. When Vibe is running your SEO, it outputs one clean set of these tags on every page, and it strips out duplicate copies that your theme or other plugins might try to add. You control the values from a single box in the editor.

Where this lives

Open any post or page in the editor. On the right sidebar, near the top, is the box titled Vibe SEO. It shows a Google preview, a social share preview, and fields for everything below. Every change you save here is written to the live page.

At the top of the box you also get a Vibe SEO score out of 100 and a live analysis list. The same score shows as a colored dot in a Vibe SEO column on your Posts and Pages list, so you can spot weak pages at a glance. Green is 80 or higher, orange is 50 to 79, red is below 50.

Setting the title and description

In the Vibe SEO box, fill in the SEO title and Meta description fields.

  • SEO title. Aim for 50 to 60 characters. Leave it blank and Vibe uses the page title instead. The character counter turns as you type.
  • Meta description. Aim for 120 to 160 characters. Google truncates anything longer. There is a Rewrite with AI button that drafts a fresh one for you.

Watch the Google preview card update live as you type, including your site name, favicon, and URL. If you leave a field blank, Vibe falls back to your site-wide default template (covered below), then to the plain page title.

Canonical and robots

Open the accordion tab labeled Advanced, canonical and robots. Three controls:

  • Canonical URL. Leave this blank on almost every page. Vibe automatically points the canonical at the page's own permalink. Only fill it in when this page is a genuine duplicate of another URL and you want Google to credit that other URL instead.
  • noindex. Check this to keep the page out of search results. Use it for thank-you pages, thin pages, or anything you do not want found.
  • nofollow. Check this to tell search engines not to follow the links on this page. This is rare.

Vibe emits a single, authoritative robots tag. If your theme (for example Enfold) tries to add its own conflicting robots tag, Vibe suppresses it so Google never sees two contradictory instructions.

Social tags

Open the Social overrides, OG and Twitter tab only when you want a page to look different when shared. Every field here is optional.

  • Open Graph title and description fall back to your SEO title and meta description if left blank.
  • Open Graph image should be about 1200 by 630 pixels. If blank, Vibe uses the featured image, then your site-wide default social image.
  • Twitter title, description, and image fall back to the Open Graph values.

The Social share preview card shows the result live.

Site-wide defaults

Go to Site Settings and find the Search appearance defaults card. Here you set title and description templates per post type using clickable tokens like [Page Title], [Separator], and [Site Name]. You also set the title separator, a default social image for pages with no image of their own, and toggles to disable author and date archives by redirecting those thin pages to your homepage. These templates fill in automatically wherever a page has not set its own values.

Who owns the head

Vibe only outputs these tags when it is your primary SEO. On a site with no other SEO plugin, Vibe takes over automatically. If Yoast, Rank Math, All in One SEO, or SEOPress is active, Vibe stays in mirror mode and shows a notice asking you to pick. Choose Switch to Vibe SEO output, then deactivate the other plugin so only one set of tags ships.

What good looks like and common mistakes

A finished page has a title in the 50 to 60 range, a description in the 120 to 160 range, a green score, and one clean set of tags in the source. Common mistakes: filling in the canonical field when you should leave it blank, forgetting to deactivate the old SEO plugin after switching to Vibe, and accidentally leaving noindex checked on a page you actually want ranked.
