Migrating from Yoast, Rank Math, or AIOSEO

Back up and carry over your existing metadata first.

Why migrating matters

If you already run Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, or SEOPress, all of your hard-won SEO settings live inside that plugin: your custom titles, meta descriptions, canonical URLs, noindex flags, and social preview text. Switching to Vibe should never mean retyping any of that. Vibe is built to carry it all across for you, keep both plugins in sync while you decide, and let you flip the switch only when you can see with your own eyes that nothing was left behind.

Vibe detects your old plugin automatically. It knows Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, and SEOPress by name, and it reads each one from its own storage, including All in One SEO's separate database table, so no field is missed.

What Vibe carries over

For every published post and page, Vibe copies the fields it manages into its own store: the SEO title, meta description, focus keyphrase, canonical, noindex and nofollow flags, cornerstone or pillar flag, and your Open Graph and Twitter Card titles, descriptions, and images. It only ever fills in a Vibe field that is still empty, so anything you have already edited in Vibe wins and is never overwritten.

If you are coming from Yoast, Vibe also carries over two site-wide settings that are not stored per page: your default social sharing image and your author and date archive noindex toggles. These land in Vibe's own defaults automatically, one time, and only if you have not already set them yourself.

Where this lives

In the WordPress admin sidebar, open Vibe SEO and click Settings. Two cards handle the migration. The first is Back up your SEO into Vibe. The second, further down, is SEO migration status, which shows field-by-field coverage. Below those sits SEO output mode, the switch that hands rendering to Vibe.

The safe switch, step by step

The Back up your SEO into Vibe card lays this out as three steps, and it tracks your progress through them.

Step 1: Back up your data into Vibe

The card shows a row of chips (titles, meta descriptions, noindex flags, canonicals) and a progress bar reading something like "0 of 240 SEO values backed up". Click Back up everything into Vibe. Vibe imports your pages in batches, updating the bar as it goes, and it is safe to leave running. When it finishes, the pill flips to Backed up and every chip shows a full count.

You do not strictly have to click the button. Vibe also runs this backup quietly on its own, a chunk at a time, on every admin page load until it is done. The button just finishes the job now instead of over the next few visits. On a very large site the migration status card offers a Complete now button that drains the whole remaining backlog in one go.

Importantly, this step changes nothing on your live site. It only makes a safe copy inside Vibe.

Step 2: Make Vibe your primary SEO

Once the backup is complete, a Make Vibe primary button unlocks. Until you press it, Vibe stays in Mirror mode: your old plugin still renders the page, and any edit you make in the Vibe SEO box is quietly written into both Vibe and the old plugin so the live page stays identical. When you click Make Vibe primary, Vibe takes over the title, meta description, canonical, Open Graph, Twitter Card, and robots tags for every page, using the data you just backed up.

Step 3: Deactivate your old plugin

After Vibe is primary, a prominent warning appears on every admin screen: your old plugin is still active, so both are emitting tags and your pages now carry duplicate titles and canonicals. It offers a one-click Deactivate button. Click it. Because your data is already safely in Vibe, this is safe and fully reversible, and Vibe clears your site cache so the clean output shows right away.

What a good result looks like

Every chip and coverage bar reads 100 percent, the status pill says Vibe is primary, and the duplicate-tag warning is gone. The migration status card confirms "Migration complete." Your live pages look exactly as they did, now served by Vibe alone.

Pro tips and common mistakes

Follow the order: back up, then go primary, then deactivate. Deactivating your old plugin before Vibe is primary would strip your tags. The coverage numbers only count published posts and pages, never trash or revisions, so a number below your total post count is usually correct, not a gap. Finally, do not leave both plugins active as primary; that is the one state that produces duplicate tags, and the warning banner exists to push you past it.
